I met Karen!!!

I know I've been missing for a while, but between changes at work and normal daily living, it feels like I barely have time for anything.Anyway, me and the hubby decided to take a long weekend away from home and visit the NYC area. I went to Karen's Body Beautiful in Brooklyn, and let me just tell you that Karen and her staff are very personable and down to earth. The store is full of goodies, and the products are made on site. There's also a spa in the back. Karen's hair is AWESOME...big,fluffy,and soft ( I know because I asked to touch it :)
After browsing and making small talk with Karen about products, I decided to get the honey oatmeal bath bar, a few skin care products, the ultimate conditioning shampoo, and the complete hair conditioner. She also offers a variety of scents for each product.
So if you're ever in the NYC,Brooklyn area, you should definitely stop by her store, I'm glad I did!

Missing my hair steamer :(

So I've been using my hair steamer since October of last year and I have to say that it's the best for deep conditioning natural hair. Well I had to send it back because I noticed a crack in the hood that slowly got bigger. I was forced to go back to using my hooded dryer and a plastic cap for deep conditioning, and I can definitely say that there is no comparison between the two. After sitting under the steamer my hair is instantly detangled when I step in the shower. My hair feels moist for days. So, for those who are on the fence about getting a steamer and wondering if there is truly a difference between the two, I hope this helps with your decision.

Lush Jasmine and Henna Fluff Eaze product review

So I've tried this product a handful of times, and each time I use it, I love it more and more! Here's a description of the product from the website:
"If your hair is a little fluffy, frizzy, dry or out-of-control, this is the one for you. It's packed with copious amounts of moisturizing and nutrient-filled oils including organic jojoba, almond, Brazil nut and extra virgin coconut oil. It works brilliantly on curly hair as well, as all the oils help define the curls and add loads of shine. The jasmine fragrance will stick with you for days after using it, so you'll have irresistibly soft, shiny and sexy smelling locks."
How to use:" Apply generously to dry hair, leave on for 20 to 30 minutes, then shampoo out. Use about a quarter of a pot for short hair, or about half a pot for longer hair. Those with very long hair should use the whole pot."
Ingredients: quite extensive so see website
PROS:
  • immediately melted tangles from my 3 day old braid out
  • gave great curl definition
  • hair smells like jasmine
  • extremely soft hair
CONS:
  • product contains cetearyl alcohol and sodium lauryl sulfate
  • stinks in the container
Overall, I will definitely add this as one of my staple prepoo's.

I flat ironed!!!

I've been eyeing the FHI nano weight pro 1850 blow dryer and flat iron gift set since Thanksgiving, and I finally bought it. It was 50% off at Trade Secret which made the total about $67. So I came home from the gym, pre-pooed,cowashed, and deep conditioned under my steamer. My intentions were to blow dry my hair and do mini twists, but I wanted to test out the new flat iron too.Now I already have a FHI and a maxi-glide, which I both love, but that's besides the point, lol. Here' my hair prior to straightening.

 And here are the results...

Excuse my messy house, I've been working hard!!
So goal is to be around BSL this time next year. Am I aiming too high??

What, a hair blog and no pics?

I know, I know, it doesn't make sense to have a hair blog with no pics of hair, right? I've just been exhausted after working 12 hour shifts, and hubby's schedule has been super busy, so we enjoy what little time we have together. I plan to post pics by the end of the week, so if anyone's out there, stay tuned...

Hello world! I bet you're thinking, 1) here's another blog about natural hair, and 2) what is going to make this blog any different. Well, honestly I just want to share my natural hair journey, provide reviews on products that I've personally tried, and just give readers an insight look of my life.
Ok, so enough with the formalities. I transitioned from August 2009 to July 2010. My original plan was to transition for at least 2 years, but one day after a long session of washing, conditioning, and straightening my hair, I asked myself what is the point of holding on to stringy, relaxed hair? So I chopped. I know some naturals get that liberated feeling after their bc, but I was like WTH am I supposed to do now? I had to totally change my way of thinking, and what I thought made me feel beautiful.
So fast forward to today. I love my hair, and I think my husband has learned to love it too. Now if I can just convince my daughter, lol.
